If You Can’t Eat It, Don’t Put It on Your Skin:

Yummy Homemade Skin Recipes

We love making homemade products from soaps to shower gels to serums, (basically everything!) not only is it fun and healthy for your body it also saves a lot of money on expensive creams and lotions!

If you’ve ever wondered why you should be concerned with what products you put on your skin, this article is for you.

What you put on your skin is absorbed into your body.

What you put on your skin is just as important as what you put in your body. Many people don’t realise that whatever they apply to their skin eventually gets absorbed and enters their bloodstream, leading to potential health risks.

It’s important to be aware of the ingredients in the products you’re using and to make sure they are safe for use. With this knowledge, you can make sure that what goes on your skin is not only safe but also beneficial for your overall health and well-being.

Have you ever stopped to read the ingredients listed on the back of any industrial skin care product that you buy?

Some of these ingredients are completely unrecognisable.

Most skin care products contain synthetic, man-made chemicals like sodium laurel, mineral oils, and laureth sulphate, these products may also contain toxins that could be residues of pesticides.

According to studies, some of these products can contain mineral oils, petroleum, parabens, and other chemicals that can lead to skin irritation, hormone imbalance, and organ toxicity. It’s quite alarming, isn’t it? It’s always better to be aware and cautious of what we put on our skin.

“There are concerns with beauty products that contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). These chemicals may interfere with your hormonal system,” says Lorenzo Cohen, Ph.D. MD Anderson professor and director of the Integrative Medicine Program.

“While a direct link between EDCs and cancer is not yet definitive, certain cancers are hormonally-driven,” Cohen explains. They include breast, prostate, ovarian, and endometrial cancers.

Other beauty and personal care products contain small quantities of known cancer-causing chemicals. “Even a low dose should cause concern, especially if you use the product every day,” Cohen says.

This is why it’s important to choose products that are made with natural, non-toxic ingredients. Natural, plant-based ingredients are non-toxic and gentle on the skin, scalp, and body. They also give us numerous health benefits, from nourishing and calming the skin to providing essential vitamins and minerals.

What is a Natural Alternative?

A natural alternative to mainstream body care products is using natural, organic, and non-toxic ingredients such as essential oils, shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and other plant-based oils. These ingredients are more gentle on your skin and are free from harsh chemicals and fragrances. Additionally, using natural products can help reduce your exposure to toxins and allergens.

The best way to avoid these risks is by choosing products that are free of harmful chemicals and ingredients like parabens, phthalates, sulphates, and synthetic fragrances. These chemicals have been linked to allergies and rashes as well as hormone disruption in children and adults alike!
